Panel approves Jet's offer to buyout Air Sahara

Mumbai, April 12 (PTI): Private carrier Jet Airways' today signed a renewed deal to takeover competitor Air Sahara, after the offer received the sanction of a three-member Arbitration Panel here. The deal was signed after the panel comprising British Judge Lord Stein and Supreme Court Justices S P Bharucha and Jeevan Reddy, vetted the draft proposal prepared by Jet and Sahara. The two then submitted a revised and final proposal to the three-member court-monitored committee, sources close to the development said. The deal is understood to value Air Sahara at Rs 2,050 crore, of which Rs 600 crore is expected to be adjusted as arrears, interest and other liabilities. Of the remaining Rs 1,450 crore, Jet has already paid Rs 500 crore as advance in lieu of the shares pledged by Sahara last year, which leaves Rs 950 crore to be paid in cash.

Preston starts again, seeks developer for former hospital site

(Preston-AP) _ Preston officials are again looking for a developer for the former Norwich Hospital site. However, anyone without access to millions of dollars to clean up the contaminated site need not apply.

The decision to make a request for proposals comes two weeks after local officials stopped mediation efforts with Utopia Studios, a New York firm that had proposed a $1.6 billion entertainment complex.

The town terminated its development agreement with Utopia in November.

Within two weeks the town will issue the first of a two-part formal request for new development proposals for the 419-acre site. Developers will have 60 days to respond.

The request will require applicants to disclose their qualifications, including some financial information, and provide a conceptual plan for the property.

Kansas Relays run along with fewer marquee names

LAWRENCE | No, Maurice Greene will not be here today at the Kansas Relays. He's not competing in this meet, where he's been a headliner several times. But there is still some top talent in today's elite events.

Among the biggest names are Allyson Felix, 2004 Olympic silver medalist in the 200 meters, and Central graduate Muna Lee, who was a finalist in the 2004 Olympic 200. Both are competing today in the women's invitational 400-meter relay about 2:20 p.m., a race in which they will team with Virginia Powell and Tianna Madison. Felix is also scheduled to run in the women's invitational 100 about 3:40 p.m.

"I always have fun coming back home," Lee said Friday as she and other elite performers met with reporters at Memorial Stadium.

Last year at the KU Relays, Felix was first and Lee second in the women's invitational 100.

Acas offers smoking ban advice

Acas, the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, has this week published a Q&A sheet for employers on how to stop staff smoking in the workplace.

The sheet is aimed at giving employers advice ahead of the smoking ban which comes into force in England on July 1.

The publication answers questions such as:

* Can I claim I suffer from an addiction under the Disability Discrimination Act?
* What about the Human Rights Act - can I claim under that?
* Surely there will be smoking facilities provided outside the building?

An Acas spokesman said: “Under the new legislation it is the duty of any person who controls or is concerned in the management of smoke-free premises to stop people smoking there. Employers who do not actively enforce the ban could face fines of up to £2,500.
