Cosatu, public sector unions to meet tomorrow
Cosatu and affiliated public sector unions, which represent the majority of civil servants, will hold a crucial meeting tomorrow to discuss a possible strike by government employees. The meeting comes as all public sector unions prepare to meet the state for arbitration on Thursday. This is a last ditch attempt to break the deadlock over wage negotiations. In 2004, public sector unions gladly accepted a wage increase of 5.7% over three years. The increase was linked to the CPIX inflation rate of 4.7% at the time. Right now the inflation rate is at 4. 9%, but the unions are rejecting government's offer of a 5.3% increase, and are demanding 12% instead. Economists have warned that in the long run the union's demand of 12%, which is way above inflation, could hurt workers and the economy in general.

A small core has been criticised by Miss Redway in a report to consultants about the Ludlow Assembly Rooms Volunteer Project. She wrote: "Some volunteers have a negative attitude towards training and development.

LA Acad's injuction dismissed
A U.S. District Court judge has dismissed the Los Angeles-based TV Academy's request for a preliminary injunction against its New York counterpart. Judge Manuel Real ruled Tuesday that the dispute between the West Coast Academy of TV Arts & Sciences and the East Coast's National Academy of TV Arts & Sciences should be settled in arbitration rather than in the courts. ATAS had filed suit against NATAS last week, arguing that the New York academy was attempting to launch a massive roster of Broadband Emmy awards without proper approval. NATAS took issue with ATAS' decision to file suit given that the two sides were already in arbitration on the matter. Real agreed with NATAS and said the disagreement should go back to arbitration. "The judge has not ruled on the merits of the case.
